Slumdog Millionaire by Danny Boyle (28 Days Later, Trainspotting) is a masterpiece of storytelling. A boy from the slums of Mumbai named Jamal (Dev Patel) gets the chance to be a contestant in the Indian version of the show "Who wants to be a Millionaire". Jamal answers all the questions correctly and is on the verge of becoming a millionaire. He's not interested in money though but wants to find the love of his life Pratika (Freida Pinto) who loves the show and might be watching that very moment. As the boy plays the game, his story about growing up in the slums of Mumbai unfolds-every question he's able to answer, is linked to a memorable moment in his life.

Slumdog Millionaire shows Mumbai in a unpretentious and truthful way. The people who live in the city are not depicted as exotic animals in a cage, but humans with love and hatred in their hearts.
